One of my favorite irrational opinions is that Tuesday is the strangest day of the week, and that extraordinary things are most likely to occur on Tuesdays.

Both the Greeks and the Spanish consider it an unlucky day. In the Catholic calendar, Mardi Gras is the last chance for excess and revelry before Lent. The zodiac links Tuesday with iron, strife, and the planet Mars.

But these are just fun facts culled from the internet; none of them have anything to do with my irrational opinion. When I put out a call for submissions with the prompt "Maybe on a Tuesday," these authors and artists responded with remarkable disregard for the common associations. All of these pieces are much more concerned with the "maybe": the supernatural intrudes on a normal life, and offers each character an opportunity from left field. Appropriately enough, all are concerned with transitions and gambles, departures and new beginnings; I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I have.

Esther Bergdahl is a recent college graduate with delusions of writing for a living. She likes stealing themes from Homer and characters from Shakespeare.

The Ending by Adrienne J. Odasso - At times like that, the last thing you want to do is close your eyes.

Faerie Tales by Alex Jane Scala - "...no tale told about a world where the moon is always full and everyone has wings and death is celebrated can be real." Yet the past, promises, poetry, and voices heard in the night all seem to be saying that it is.

The Girl Who Used to Dream by Meisje R. - An elderly woman shares a precious secret with her great-grandson: that once she could bring objects from her dreams into real life.

...And the Door Will Open by Thia Odiorne - In the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, in the medieval galleries, there stand a set of carved wooden doors that once belonged to a medieval Spanish church. Study at them long enough, and you start to wonder what you might hear, if you were the right person, at the right time.

Evolution by Kenna Kettrick - Photographic evidence.

Movie Review: Pan's Labyrinth by Frances Nicole Rogers - I can't deny the quality of Pan's Labyrinth, the almost universally acclaimed new film by Guillermo del Toro. I also don't agree 100% with the film's believers.

Horizon by Taline Boghosian - "One with the ocean and the woman unfurled." (Kate Bush) Acrylic and pencil, watercolor.
